Clinical Lead A&A Ken Young – taking over as Clinical lead from Gavin Tait
List of Scottish Consultants/ update of emails/ SCOT website
Communication remains critical and I am very grateful to Paul Jenkins for his work in setting up a Simplelists account. This is a Group emailing service that allows nominated individuals to group email. The service also provides email list management. scotorth@simplelists.com
Given the understandable concerns about electronic security and the transfer of sensitive information, the time has come for SCOT to communicate only via secure NHS.net or other local nhs mailboxes.
I would be grateful if you could therefore:
1. Email Paul at pjenkins2@nhs.net with a NHS secure email if the one we use isn’t.
2. Do the same for your colleagues in your unit
3. Let us know if you have a SCOT committee role – particularly if you are a recently appointed CD
4. Copy in Jimmy Hutchison at j.d.hutchison@abdn.ac.uk if you are a new Consultant – with your hospital and specialty interest
Paul has also now set up a website (www.scotorth.com) which will be fairly simple and contain information about upcoming meetings, agenda, minutes, programmes, constitution. Some areas are password protected with the generic password skeletonat present.
GIRFT in Scotland
Tim Briggs’ GIRFT report awaited in England – it may be a positive way of benchmarking hospitals and direct resource allocation. Opportunity exists potentially to bring GIRFT to Scotland but there are issues about comparing datasets from the two devolved healthcare systems.
This will be discussed and a decision taken at the winter SCOT meeting in Crieff.
Let us hear your views either via your local representative or tomark.blyth@ggc.scot.nhs.uk
Scottish Orthopaedic Surgery Development Group (SOSDG)
The 5 workstrands continue to gather pace. Rolling audit being used variably throughout the country. Recent useful discussion at focus meetings involving clinical leads and managers.
